Rolling Colt

OH DAMN, I JUST WENT THERE.

You know, I think when I came around and admitted to crossing over to the brony side of things I'm sure I'm sure I swore to myself I won't let myself get this far. But, like the drug it is I've gotten this deep. Lord help me if I venture any further.

Anyways, I guess with nothing more to do with myself someone like myself, who likes to dabble in a bit of writing, would get this far. And with two possible fics in my head I'm coming around to plan them heavier. I hope it doesn't interfere with any my more important writing projects, at least in the scheme of things. But a good break from those is always helpful, especially when what I could be doing with this will find itself up faster and I can judge my writing style again.


Anyways, "Rolling Colt" is an OC I came up with to serve in story. I promised myself I wouldn't draw him until I work out a story. And now I have. The original idea was to do it as a nod to the Blues Brothers. But that turned into something else has I had to mull over the reason why he would be doing what Jake and Elwood Blues were doing in the movie: sort of running (or at least they were being chased). And up until now I haven't had any solid ideas.

I do now. And it involves him stealing that guitar there.


In the end, I think the number of references I used worked out well. I compared him to Octavia quite a few times to work out the stance and position of the head, as well as working off a skeleton from a "How to draw" MLP pony tutorials. In the end, I really love his mane.

The concept of Rolling is supposed to be combination of Stevie Ray Vaughn (for the choice in hats, and guitar), Jake and Elwood Blues (for the glasses, also his color. He was originally going to be black but I don't think that would have worked), and figures like Jimmy Page and Rory Gallagher (mane, and guitar).

His stage name (I guess you can call it that) is a play on Rolling Stones. Colt just sounds good and is a singlesyllable word like "Stones", so it comes off the tongue the same way.

I'll need to flush out his character more. But now I have a visual basis. I got some initial ideas floating around in my head that I might be writing down sometime soon. But before I really get down to work on him I want to get some other projects out of the way or at least started first.


All the non-bronies watching are free to scorn me infinitely. But you know that I knew that this day was coming.
