Cadence-Shining Rumi

To Rumi (Jalaal ad-din Muhammad Rumi) the pursuit of love was not simply an emotional attachment to find a partner for life (or sex, depending on your philosophy) but a pursuit of a higher spiritual cause. Love for others - as towards the beloved or the primal root of existence - was a step towards developing maturely and to become a well rounded individual. Along with the practice of Saama - listening to music - he developed on Sufi thought, to pursue ritually some form of magic. He advocated a journey through both mind and love to perfection, blending Islam with Buddhism and Hinduism which he was surely in contact with growing up in northern Afghanistan.
